BMW battery replacement in Khalifa City
We replace and register BMW batteries at your door in Khalifa City, any hour, any day. Registration is the part that matters: every modern BMW has to be told through a diagnostic tool that a new battery has been fitted, or it keeps charging the new one as if it were the worn-out old one. We do the registration on site as part of the job.

BMW owners in Khalifa City
The Khalifa City to Abu Dhabi island commute on the E22 is long enough to keep a BMW battery healthy, so the cars we replace early are usually the second car that only does the nursery run and the weekend shop. BMWs keep several modules awake after locking, and a car used ten minutes a day never fully recovers.
Recent models need the new battery registered to the car. We do it on site.
What battery a BMW takes
BMW uses AGM batteries on nearly everything with start-stop or brake energy regeneration, which covers most cars from about 2008 onwards. The battery usually lives in the boot, under the floor or behind the side trim, with a vent tube leading outside, and the engine bay has only jump start terminals. An intelligent battery sensor (IBS) on the negative terminal measures current, voltage and temperature, and the car adjusts charging to the battery's recorded age. Newer models add a 48V mild hybrid system, and some carry a second 12V battery.
Common BMW battery sizes
Common BMW fitments are H6 or H7 AGM of 70 to 80 Ah on the 1 Series, 2 Series, X1 and many 3 Series cars, H8 AGM of 90 to 95 Ah on the 5 Series, X3 and X5, and H9 AGM of about 105 Ah on the 7 Series and larger engines. Capacity and type are stored in the car, so we fit the same Ah and technology shown on the old label or decoded from the VIN. If the rating has to change, the car needs coding as well as registration.

BMW battery fitment by model
Typical batteries for the BMW models we see most in Abu Dhabi. The exact one is confirmed from the label on your old battery or from the VIN before the technician sets off.
| Model | Typical battery | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| BMW X5 | Typically H8 or H9 AGM, 90 to 105 Ah | Under the boot floor, so the loadspace needs to be clear before we start. |
| BMW 5 Series | Typically H8 AGM, 90 to 95 Ah | In the boot under the floor panel, with the IBS on the negative cable. |
| BMW 3 Series | Typically H7 AGM, about 80 Ah | Boot-mounted, and registration takes a few extra minutes after fitting. |
| BMW 7 Series | Typically H9 AGM, about 105 Ah | A heavy battery in the boot, and some versions carry a second battery for the electronics. |
| BMW X6 | Typically H8 or H9 AGM, 90 to 105 Ah | Same layout as the X5, under the loadspace floor. |
| BMW X3 | Typically H7 or H8 AGM, 80 to 90 Ah | Under the boot floor; start-stop returns once the new battery is registered and charged. |
| BMW X1 | Typically H6 or H7 AGM, 70 to 80 Ah | A smaller tray than the X3, so the exact length matters and we check before loading. |
What our technician does differently on a BMW
- We register the new battery with a diagnostic tool so the charging strategy resets to a fresh battery.
- If the replacement differs in capacity or type from the original, we code the new values into the car as well.
- The vent tube is refitted on every boot-mounted battery, because an unvented battery in a closed boot is a safety issue.
- A backup supply stays connected during the swap to hold the clock, iDrive settings and the window and sunroof initialisation.
Signs your BMW battery is failing
- The message Increased battery discharge, or Battery discharging while stopped, shows on the iDrive screen.
- Start-stop no longer shuts the engine off, with no fault shown.
- The clock and date reset themselves after the car has been parked.
- Comfort functions are cut back, with the car turning off seat heating, the rear demister or the audio sooner than usual to save power.
Technician's note on BMW batteries
An unregistered battery is the most common reason we see a BMW battery fail in under a year. The car overcharges it because it still believes the old, sulphated battery is fitted. If someone changed yours without a diagnostic tool, we can register it after the fact and test what is left of it.

BMW battery questions
Do you register the battery after replacing it on a BMW?
Yes, registration is included every time. The technician connects a diagnostic tool after fitting and records the new battery in the car's power management. It adds a few minutes and is done at your door.
What happens if a BMW battery is not registered?
The car keeps charging the new battery with the strategy it used for the old one, which shortens its life. Start-stop may stay off and the discharge warning can return. Registration fixes this, and it can be done later if it was skipped.
Can I fit a standard flooded battery instead of AGM in my BMW?
No, not if the car came with AGM. Start-stop and energy recovery cycle the battery far harder than a flooded type can stand, and boot-mounted batteries must be the sealed, vented kind. We fit the same technology and capacity the car was built with.
Where is the battery on a BMW X5 or 5 Series?
In the boot, under the floor panel. The terminals you see under the bonnet are only for jump starting. Please clear the boot before we arrive so the technician can lift the floor.
How long does a BMW battery last in Abu Dhabi, and what warranty do you give?
Around 2 to 3 years is typical in this heat when the battery has been registered properly. Our BMW batteries come from Varta, Banner, Bosch and Exide with a warranty of upto 24 months. Cash, card, Tabby and Tamara are all accepted.
