Who makes Panasonic batteries
- Flooded
- EFB
Panasonic is the Japanese electronics group, and it has made lead-acid car batteries for decades alongside its better-known household and electric-vehicle cells. Its car batteries are produced in Japan and at other Panasonic plants in Asia, so the country of manufacture on the label varies by size.
What Panasonic does well
- Japanese engineering in exactly the sizes Japanese cars use.
- Sealed and maintenance-free, with low water loss.
- Correct terminal size and position for Japanese cars, including the thin posts some small models use.
- Idling-stop versions available for the cars that need them.
Worth knowing before you choose
- There is no AGM in the range we carry, so it is not for European start-stop cars.
- Toyota and Lexus hybrids use a special auxiliary battery, which has to be matched by type, not by brand.
- Some sizes are harder to find than the Korean or Indian equivalents.
Panasonic battery range
| Range | Type | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Maintenance-free flooded range | Flooded (maintenance-free) | Japanese saloons and crossovers without idling-stop, such as a Corolla, Civic or Mazda 6. |
| Maintenance-free range for SUVs and 4x4s | Flooded (maintenance-free, large JIS sizes) | Bigger engines that need more cranking power, such as a Prado, Pilot or Infiniti QX80. |
| Idling-stop EFB range | EFB | Mazda and Subaru models with an idling-stop system that were built with an EFB-type battery. |
Panasonic in Abu Dhabi heat
Panasonic's flooded batteries use calcium-alloy grids and a sealed lid, which keeps water loss low through months of 45°C days. On most Japanese cars the battery sits at a front corner of the engine bay, where it gets some airflow once the car is moving. A sunshade and a weekly longer drive do more for its lifespan than any feature printed on the label.
Choose Panasonic if
- You own a Japanese car and like the idea of a Japanese battery in it.
- Your Mazda or Subaru has idling-stop and needs the EFB type.
- You want a sealed battery with the correct JIS terminals and no adapters.
Look at another brand if
- The size you need is not available in Panasonic today. Amaron or Solite in the same JIS size does the same work.
- Your car is European or has AGM. Look at Varta or Bosch.
Cars we fit Panasonic to
Panasonic sits most comfortably in Toyota and Lexus, Honda, Mazda, Subaru and Infiniti, the makes its sizes were drawn up for. That runs from the small battery in a Yaris or Jazz to the larger ones in a Prado, CX-9 or QX80. Hybrid models are a separate case, so tell us if yours is one.
Our verdict on Panasonic
A good, correctly sized battery for Japanese cars, and a pleasing match if you like to keep things Japanese. If the size is not in stock, do not wait for it: Amaron or Solite is just as suitable.
What Khalifa City drivers say on Google
Reviews from customers of our mobile battery teams in and around Khalifa City.
Khalid A.Nissan Patrol, Khalifa City3 weeks agoThe Patrol would only click on the morning of the school run. I sent my location on WhatsApp and the technician was at the villa in about half an hour. He tested the old battery first, showed me the reading, then changed it in the driveway.
Sarah M.Kia Sportage, Al Raha Gardensa month agoCame back from three weeks away to a completely dead car. I assumed I needed a new battery, but the technician tested it and said it only needed a jump start and a proper drive. I appreciated not being sold something I did not need.
Arjun P.Toyota Camry, Al Rayyana2 weeks agoMy Camry was down in the basement at Al Rayyana and I was not sure anyone would come to the bay. The technician left his van in a visitor space and carried the battery and tools down to me. Paid by card and the old battery went with him.
Panasonic battery questions
Is Panasonic the original battery in a Toyota?
It can be, but we would not promise it for your car. Japanese-built cars are fitted with batteries from several Japanese makers depending on model and year. What we can say is that a Panasonic in the right JIS size fits and performs as the car expects.
Does a Mazda with i-stop need a special battery?
Yes. Mazda's i-stop system needs an idling-stop battery, an EFB type in a specific size such as Q-85, not a standard flooded one. Fit an ordinary battery and i-stop usually stops working and the battery wears out early. The size is confirmed from the old battery's label.
Can you fit a Panasonic to a Lexus hybrid?
Only if the correct auxiliary type is available. Lexus and Toyota hybrids use a small 12V auxiliary battery, often a vented AGM mounted in the boot, and a standard flooded battery must not go in its place. Tell us the model and we will say what fits.
Is Panasonic better than Amaron for a Honda?
Not noticeably. Both are sealed flooded batteries in the correct JIS size, and both typically last around 2 to 3 years here. Choose on availability and on which one has the right terminal layout for your Honda.
How long does a Panasonic car battery last in the UAE?
Around 2 to 3 years is the honest figure for Abu Dhabi. Heat does the damage, and short trips around Khalifa City speed it up. A warranty of upto 24 months applies when we fit it.
