What battery a Mazda takes
Older Mazdas and trims without i-stop use a standard flooded JIS battery. Skyactiv cars with i-stop, which covers many Mazda3, Mazda6, CX-5, CX-30 and CX-9 models, use an enhanced flooded battery built for repeated restarts, along with a current sensor on the negative terminal. Some trims add i-ELOOP, which stores braking energy in a capacitor that is separate from the battery. The six-cylinder CX-60 and CX-90 are mild hybrids with a 48V system as well as the 12V battery.
