What battery a Kia takes

Kia shares platforms with Hyundai, so the pattern is familiar: sealed flooded batteries on the Picanto, Rio, Pegas and older Cerato, and AGM with a battery sensor on models with Idle Stop and Go, such as recent Sportage, Sorento, K5, Carnival and Telluride trims. The Niro hybrid uses a 12V lithium battery inside the hybrid pack with a reset button, while the EV6 and Kia's other electric models have a conventional 12V battery for their electronics. On the Carnival, the power sliding doors and tailgate are the first things to misbehave when voltage drops.

How long does a Kia battery last in the UAE?

Around 2 to 3 years in normal use. Picanto and Rio batteries are small and usually go first, while Sorento and Carnival batteries last a little longer if the car is driven daily. Parking in open sun shortens all of them.

Does my Kia need an AGM battery?

Only if it has Idle Stop and Go or left the factory with AGM. You can tell from the label on the old battery or the start-stop button near the gear lever. Fitting a flooded battery to one of these cars switches start-stop off and wears the battery out early.

Why do my Kia Carnival sliding doors not work after a battery change?

Because the door system lost its position memory when power was cut. It needs a simple re-initialisation, which we carry out as part of the job. If another shop changed the battery, we can do the reset during a visit.
