What battery a Genesis takes

Genesis fits AGM batteries across its rear-drive range and mounts them in the boot or under the luggage floor, away from engine heat. A battery sensor on the negative terminal reports state of charge to the alternator management system, and idle stop and go uses that reading to decide when it may work. The electric GV60 and the Electrified models still carry a small 12 volt battery for the computers and door locks. Because the battery sits inside the body, it must be a sealed AGM with its vent tube connected.

Genesis uses DIN sizes in AGM: typically H6 (70 Ah) or H7 (80 Ah) on the G70 and GV70, and H7 or H8 (80-95 Ah) on the G80, GV80 and G90. Capacity changes with engine and options, so we check the old label or the VIN first.

Technician's note on Genesis batteries

Do not accept a flooded battery in the boot of a Genesis. It gasses into the cabin space and the charging system is tuned for AGM. After replacement, leave the car locked and undisturbed for a few hours when you can, so the sensor learns the new battery.
