What battery a GMC takes
Older GMC trucks ran plain flooded batteries, many with side terminals. From around 2015 the Yukon and Sierra moved to AGM, and every start-stop model since needs one. A current sensor on the negative cable reports to the body computer, which adjusts alternator output to save fuel, so the charging voltage on a GMC moves around on purpose. Duramax diesel Sierra HD trucks carry two batteries wired in parallel.
Common GMC battery sizes
Most recent GMC models take BCI group 48 (H6, about 70 Ah) or 94R (H7, about 80 Ah), with group 47 (H5) on some four-cylinder Terrains. Technician's note on GMC batteries
Do not judge a GMC by a voltmeter alone. The charging system lowers its voltage on purpose when the battery is full, which is normal, so we load-test the battery and read the sensor data before calling anything faulty. If a battery under two years old is flat, we check for a drain before fitting another one.

Do you need to programme a new battery to a GMC?

My Sierra diesel has two batteries. Do both have to be changed?
Yes, we replace both together. They are wired in parallel, so an old battery pulls a new one down to its level within months. Both are tested first, and if both are healthy you only need a jump start.
