Range Rover owners in Khalifa City
Range Rovers on Khalifa City villa driveways do a lot of ten-minute trips, and each one spends more charge unlocking, cooling the cabin and raising the suspension than the alternator gives back. If yours mostly runs between home, the school gate and Al Forsan, half an hour on the E10 each week does more for the battery than idling on the drive.

What battery a Range Rover takes
The full-size Range Rover (L405) and Range Rover Sport (L494) use a large AGM main battery under the bonnet by the bulkhead, plus a small auxiliary AGM that supports start-stop. The Velar keeps its batteries under the boot floor, and the Evoque has its main battery under the bonnet beneath the scuttle panel. A battery monitoring module on the negative terminal counts every amp in and out, which is why the car must be charged or jumped from the body earth point and not from the battery post. Mild hybrid and plug-in versions add a high-voltage pack but still boot their electronics from 12 volts.
Common Range Rover battery sizes
Range Rover main batteries are DIN H8 (about 95 Ah) or H9 (about 105 Ah) in AGM, with H7 (80 Ah) on many Evoques. The auxiliary battery is a compact AGM of around 14 Ah. We check the old labels or run the VIN, because the fitted size depends on engine, year and equipment, and the newest L460 generation is always confirmed by VIN.

Range Rover battery fitment by model
Typical batteries for the Range Rover models we see most in Abu Dhabi. The exact one is confirmed from the label on your old battery or from the VIN before the technician sets off.
| Model | Typical battery | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Range Rover Range Rover Sport | H8 or H9 AGM, 95-105 Ah, plus auxiliary | 2014-on cars have main and auxiliary batteries; the 2005-2013 Sport has a single battery under a cover by the bulkhead. |
| Range Rover Range Rover | H8 or H9 AGM, 95-105 Ah, plus auxiliary | 2013-on cars run dual batteries, and both are tested before either is replaced. |
| Range Rover Range Rover Evoque | H7 or H8 AGM, 80-95 Ah | The main battery is buried under the scuttle trim at the back of the engine bay, so fitting takes longer. |
| Range Rover Range Rover Velar | H7 or H8 AGM, 80-95 Ah, plus auxiliary | Batteries sit under the boot floor, so the boot should be clear when we arrive. |
What our technician does differently on a Range Rover
- We reset the battery monitoring system with a diagnostic tool so the car charges the new battery from a clean start.
- Main and auxiliary batteries are tested one at a time, because the car reports both with the same vague warnings.
- Jump starts and charging go through the designated earth stud, never the negative post, so the monitoring module counts the charge.
- The car stays powered during the swap to protect air suspension settings, seat memory and the infotainment.
Signs your Range Rover battery is failing
- 'Low battery please start engine' shows on the screen after a few minutes with the ignition on.
- The start-stop light stays amber and the system is never available.
- The car locks and unlocks slowly, the tailgate stalls and the air suspension is slow to rise in the morning.
- Stray warnings for gearbox, hill descent or suspension appear at start-up and vanish on the next drive.

Technician's note on Range Rover batteries
A Range Rover with low voltage will invent faults. Before anyone books gearbox or suspension work, have both batteries tested under load. And replace the auxiliary when it tests weak, even if the main is new: the two are linked and the bad one wins.

Range Rover battery questions
Why does my Range Rover say Low battery please start engine?
Because the monitoring system has measured the battery charge as too low to keep the electronics running with the engine off. On a car over two years old it usually means the main or auxiliary battery is wearing out. We test both on site at no charge and tell you which one it is.
Does my Range Rover have two batteries?
Yes, most Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Velar models with start-stop do. There is a large main battery and a small auxiliary battery that holds the electrics steady during restarts. Each can fail on its own, so we test them separately.
Do you reset the BMS after changing a Range Rover battery?
Yes, every time. The battery monitoring system stores the age and condition of the old battery, and without a reset it keeps treating the new one the same way. We do the reset with a diagnostic tool before leaving.
Where is the battery on a Range Rover Velar or Evoque?
The Velar carries its batteries under the boot floor. The Evoque has its main battery under the bonnet, beneath the scuttle trim at the back of the engine bay. Both are replaced at your location.
Can a weak battery cause suspension or gearbox warnings on a Range Rover?
Yes, very often. The control units for air suspension, gearbox and driver aids all log faults when voltage dips during starting. Test the batteries first, because many of these warnings disappear once the voltage is right.
