A Tesla's drive battery never starts the car on its own. A low-voltage battery has to wake the computers and close the main contactors first, and after that the car's DC-DC converter keeps the low-voltage battery charged. Earlier cars use a 12V lead-acid battery, AGM on the Model S and Model X, mounted under the front trunk trim near the windscreen. From around late 2021 Tesla moved to a compact 16V lithium-ion battery, and the Cybertruck runs a 48V low-voltage system with no 12V battery at all.
