Volvo battery replacement in Khalifa City
We change Volvo batteries on your driveway in Khalifa City at any hour, and we reset the battery monitoring system afterwards. That reset is the step people skip: without it a Volvo keeps charging the new battery as if it were the worn-out one, and start-stop often stays off.

Volvo battery fitment by model
Typical batteries for the Volvo models we see most in Abu Dhabi. The exact one is confirmed from the label on your old battery or from the VIN before the technician sets off.
| Model | Typical battery | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Volvo XC90 | H7 or H8 AGM, 80-95 Ah | Under the boot floor; 2016-2019 start-stop cars also carry a small support battery. |
| Volvo XC60 | H6 or H7 AGM, 70-80 Ah | 2018-on cars have the main battery under the boot floor; earlier cars keep it under a cover at the back of the engine bay. |
| Volvo XC40 | H6 or H7 AGM, 70-80 Ah | Under the bonnet and easy to reach; a BMS reset follows the fitting. |
| Volvo S90 | H7 or H8 AGM, 80-95 Ah | Boot-mounted, with a vent tube that has to be refitted because the battery shares air with the cabin. |
| Volvo S60 | H6 or H7, 70-80 Ah, AGM on start-stop cars | Start-stop years carry a support battery as well as the main one. |
| Volvo V40 | H6, about 70 Ah, AGM or EFB | Under the bonnet; the 2012-2019 cars have start-stop, so no plain flooded battery. |
What our technician does differently on a Volvo
- We reset the battery monitoring system with a diagnostic tool after fitting, so the car charges the new battery correctly.
- The support battery is tested on its own, because a failed one triggers a start-stop service message while the main battery is still fine.
- Boot-mounted batteries get their vent tube reconnected, which keeps charging gases out of the cabin.
- Memory power is held during the swap so the windows, sunroof, clock and infotainment settings are not lost.
Signs your Volvo battery is failing
- 'Low battery charge, Power save mode' comes up on the driver display and the infotainment shuts down after a few minutes.
- 'Start/Stop Service required' appears, which on these cars usually points to the small support battery.
- '12 V Battery, Charging fault' shows while driving, and that one needs a test before you go much further.
- The car limits the fan, heated seats or screen by itself, and start-stop no longer engages.
Volvo owners in Khalifa City
Many Khalifa City Volvos are family XC90s and XC60s that do the Raha International or Al Yasmina school run and little else on weekdays. Fifteen minutes with the AC on full and the engine stopping at every junction is a poor diet for an AGM, so a longer drive towards Yas Island now and then keeps it charged.
Recent models need the new battery registered to the car. We do it on site.
What battery a Volvo takes
Almost every Volvo of the last decade uses an AGM main battery watched by a monitoring sensor on the negative terminal. Start-stop cars from roughly 2010 to 2019 also carry a small support battery that keeps the electrics alive during an engine restart. On the current XC90, XC60, S90 and V90 the main battery sits under the boot floor, while the XC40 keeps it under the bonnet. Mild hybrid B-badged cars add a 48 volt lithium battery and Recharge plug-ins a high-voltage pack, but both still wake up from 12 volts.
Common Volvo battery sizes
Volvo uses European DIN sizes: H6 (70 Ah), H7 (80 Ah) and H8 (95 Ah), nearly always AGM on cars with start-stop. The support battery is a small AGM of around 10 Ah. We match capacity and type to the old label or the VIN, since one model can carry different batteries depending on engine.

Technician's note on Volvo batteries
On a Volvo with two batteries, find out which one has failed before paying for both. We test each on its own. And if an EFB or flooded battery goes in where the car expects AGM, the charging strategy will wear it out fast, so stay with the type the car was built with.
Volvo battery questions
Does a Volvo need the new battery registered?
Yes, recent Volvos need a battery monitoring system reset after a battery change. It tells the car a new battery is fitted so it drops the charging pattern it used for the old one. Our technician does this on site with a diagnostic tool.
Where is the battery on a Volvo XC90?
Under the floor of the boot. We replace it there, at your home or office, and reconnect the vent tube before closing up. It helps if the boot is empty when we arrive.
What is the Volvo support battery, and does it need replacing too?
It is a small second battery that powers the electronics while start-stop restarts the engine. It only needs replacing if it tests weak, which often happens at a similar age to the main battery. A start-stop service message is the usual sign.
Can I fit a normal battery in a Volvo with start-stop?
No, it should be an AGM of the same size and capacity as the original. The charging system is set up for AGM, and a flooded battery will fail early and disable start-stop. We bring the correct type after checking your VIN or old label.
My Volvo says Low battery charge but still starts. Should I worry?
Yes, treat it as an early warning. The car measures the battery itself and the message means the charge is lower than it wants. Message us for a free test: sometimes a long drive or a charge cures it, sometimes the battery is near the end.
